Duluth mayor is not quite viral in Psy parody

Duluth Mayor Don Ness is becoming a YouTube sensation. Okay, maybe a mini-sensation.

In a video posted Monday, Ness is featured in a comedy troupe spoof giving a fake speech, donning sunglasses and breaking out in a parodied "Gangnam style" dance organizers called "Gregnam style" -- one the group playfully refers to as a new dance sweeping the twin ports of Duluth and Superior. By week's end, the video had more than 18,000 views.

"You can't take yourself too seriously," Ness said in a phone interview. "I've found that people like to see their politicians in embarrassing, painful or potentially dangerous situations. This definitely fits into the category of kind of embarrassing."

This isn't the first time Ness has been part of year-end spoofs at Duluth's Rubber Chicken Theater. This year, a few other Duluth public figures are featured in a video doing the same dance. It has about 600 hits.

Ness hesitated this year, he said. "Usually I draw a line at dancing."
