About 300 members of Duluth's 148th Fighter Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard will be deployed to Afghanistan in August and will be stationed at Kandahar Air Field, the Guard announced Thursday.

While members of the wing, which flies fighter jets, have been deployed previously, the Guard said this deployment will be the wing's first as an "aviation package" and the first to use its new Block 50 F-16 aircraft. Most personnel will be deployed for two months.
