DULUTH, Minn. — Duluth residents are offering input on a planned memorial for two decades-old ski jumps that were torn down this year.
WDIO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1wHxXqu ) dozens of people attended a public input session Wednesday on the memorial for the Chester Bowl Park jumps. The memorialization committee has a $15,000 budget and plans to build near a playground where ski jumpers landed.
Big Chester Bowl Ski Jump was built in 1924 and Little Chester around 1970. The jumps' lower portions were torn down in 2011 to prevent people from climbing on them, and the rest came down in August.
Artists will present their proposals for the memorial in early 2015.
Former Olympian James Denney trained his kids to also become Olympic ski jumpers at the park. He says he hopes the memorial represents the jumps' rich history.
