“There is only one success — to be able to spend your life in your own way” wrote American journalist and poet Christopher Morley. Should you do what you love or what you’re good at? Some experts say the latter. There is a big difference. We are all born with gifts. Parents and teachers can help young people polish their strengths and build confidence.

I had pondered a career in music and architecture. And then a tropical storm named Agnes flooded my boyhood home, getting me on a meteorology track. I wound up marrying a great architect. Sigmund Freud would have had a field day with that.

Drought has returned to parts of northern Minnesota from Bemidji and Brainerd to Duluth. So no more bad-mouthing storms, OK? The sun comes out Monday, but more (lovely, beneficial) showers return Tuesday into Friday before skies clear this weekend.

Long-range models are a mess. ECMWF says 40s for highs by late October, while NOAA’s GFS shows 60s, even another shot at 70.
