Drivers have come through the heat wave in good shape, AAA Minnesota says.

On Thursday, 251 people called for service, spokesman Gail Weinholzer said. That's average for a summer day.

But the extreme heat has wreaked havoc on some vehicles, said Matt Hehl of AAA Minneapolis, prompting calls about overheating, blown tires and dead batteries.

Even with cooler and less humid conditions predicted this weekend, there is no room to let your guard down. Just like in the winter, AAA says motorists should have these items in the car, in case of a breakdown: a flashlight with extra batteries, warning devices such as flares or reflective triangles, a first aid kit and a fully charged cellphone.
