April 23, 2019 at 1:52AM

Two passenger vehicles crashed head-on before dawn Monday in northwestern Wisconsin, and both drivers were killed, authorities said. The collision occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Hwy. 8 just west of Turtle Lake, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency responders declared both drivers dead at the scene. Their identities have yet to be released.

According to the Sheriff's Office, an SUV heading east crossed over the centerline about a half-mile east of 15th Street and collided with a westbound car. It was raining at the time, but authorities have yet to say whether that played a role in the collision.
