Just in time for the holidays, a national designated driver service is expanding to the Twin Cities.

Called BeMyDD  - as in be my designated driver - the service allows customers to hire a personal chauffeur to drive them around town in the comfort of their own car.

Service will start on Wednesday, the night before Thanksgiving.

With its motto "we drive your car so you don't have to," a professional driver will arrive at a customer's house or office, take the keys to the customer's car and take them anywhere they want to go. The minimum hire time is 3 hours at $14 to $19 per hour.

BeMyDD, which operates in 76 other U.S. cities, also offers car pick up services for those who have already driven somewhere but don't want to get behind the wheel to go home. A BeMyDD driver will take the customer and their vehicle home.

Chauffeurs can also be hired for events such as weddings, holiday parties and corporate gatherings.

The drivers are fully insured, have excellent driving records and arrive in professional business attire "who look like a million bucks,' said spokeswoman Aurora Kitko.

"We provide for a personal experience," she said.

Customers can use an app to arrange service at BeMyDD.com or by calling 1-877-823-6933.

With BeMyDD's arrival, the metro area now has at least two chauffeur services. Sober Car, based in White Bear Lake, also will pick up clients throughout the metro at any hour of the day and drive them home. They also will ferry the client's vehicle so it doesn't remain in a parking lot or on the street where it could be vandalized, stolen or towed.
