A man walking in a roundabout was run over and killed near St. Cloud State University, authorities said Wednesday.

The incident occurred about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at 5th Avenue and University Drive S., police said.

Adow H. Abdi, 71, of St. Cloud, was taken by ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital and died less than three hours later, according to police.

The driver, William E. Stone, 45, also of St. Cloud, stopped and joined others in giving aid to Abdi. Police said Stone showed no signs of impairment and has been cooperating with the investigation.

Stone was driving west on University, entered the roundabout and struck Abdi shortly before he was to resume west on University, police said.

There are no marked areas in the roundabout for pedestrians. There are marked crosswalks on all four sides beyond the roundabout.
