A speeding and swerving SUV struck a tree near a Maplewood intersection early Wednesday, the impact leaving the driver dead, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 2 a.m. along southbound Rice Street, roughly 100 yards north of Roselawn Avenue, police said.
The driver was identified as Miguel J. Martinez, 21, of Roseville.
"It did not appear that Martinez was wearing a seat belt" when his SUV veered off the road and hit the large tree, said Police Chief Paul Schnell.
