A motorist ran into and killed two horses that strayed onto a central Minnesota highway, authorities said.

The collisions occurred about 10:40 p.m. Saturday west of Hewitt in Todd County, according to the State Patrol.

The car's driver, 66-year-old David L. Schetnan, of Breckenridge, Minn., was hospitalized with noncritical injuries, the patrol said.

Schetnan was heading west on Hwy. 210, came over a hill near 121st Avenue and fatally struck the horses as they stood in his lane, the patrol added.

The patrol said Monday that the horses apparently escaped from nearby property.
