A 46-year-old Maplewood man, suspected of driving while impaired, hit and injured a State Patrol trooper on Interstate 94 early Saturday morning.

The State Patrol said troopers were dispatched at 3:30 a.m. to check on an unoccupied stalled vehicle that was blocking the left lane of the ramp from eastbound I-94 to southbound Hwy. 61. The patrol vehicle was stopped with its emergency lights activated when Jay L. Binnebose, of Maplewood, who was driving eastbound, struck the stopped patrol car, according to the State Patrol.

Both Binnebose and the trooper, Jack Tiegs of Oakdale, were treated and released from Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The State Patrol said Binnebose was arrested on drunken driving charges.
