Driver dies in fiery crash in St. Croix County

One person was killed Friday night after being caught in a burning car after a one-vehicle crash in New Richmond, Wis., according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

Police responded to the incident at 11:42 p.m. where they found a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina in a ditch. The driver, the lone occupant of the car, was traveling south on County Hwy. A when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and went off the roadway, slamming into a tree. Police said the car erupted in flames.

First responders were unable to rescue the driver trapped inside; that person was prononced dead at the scene.

The victim was taken to the Ramsey County medical examiner's office and will be identified once relatives have been notified.
