A motorist veered through the median early Thursday southeast of the Twin Cities and died in a collision with another vehicle, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. on Hwy. 52 north of Zumbrota, according to the State Patrol.
A 22-year-old man from Rosemount died in the wreck, the patrol said. His identity is expected to be released Friday morning.
The other driver, 76-year-old Cletus R. Pfeiffer of Rochester, was hospitalized with critical injuries.
The patrol said the road was snowy when the Rosemount man's southbound car crossed the median and hit Pfeiffer's northbound vehicle.
