Accompanied by fireworks, Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, was nominated for governor Friday at the state Republican convention, taking the stage moments after his main rival, Rep. Marty Seifert, R-Marshall, was also nominated.

Balloting for governor at the convention in Minneapolis is expected to soon begin.

Emmer told the cheering delegates at the convention to "leave behind politics as usual, and politicians as usual."

"Now is the time to be inspired," he said, adding that Republicans were the only option to return Minnesota and the country to prosperity. "There is no shame in saying 'No' to bad ideas."

But he added that "I will be a governor of 'Yes' " when it comes to implementing common-sense government.
