Doyle's first test comes against Rays, with the GM watching

Terry Doyle, the Twins pick in last December's Rule 5 draft, must either make the Opening Day roster or be offered back to the White Sox.

PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. -- The Twins originally had Francisco Liriano scheduled to face the Rays today, but they decided to start him against the Red Sox in the other split-squad game.

Liriano is scheduled to face the Rays in his next start, and the Twins wanted to give him some variety. But it's interesting to note that pitching coach Rick Anderson and General Manager Terry Ryan are not in Fort Myers, watching Liriano today.

They are here, at the Charlotte Sports Park, watching the Twins other split-squad game. Rule 5 draftee Terry Doyle is getting the start for Minnesota, and it'll be the first of several important tests he faces this spring.

He'll need to either make the Opening Day roster or be offered back to the White Sox. The Twins expected Tampa Bay to throw out their A-lineup for their home opener, but Doyle caught a few breaks, with Desmond Jennings, B.J. Upton, Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena all getting a day off.

La Velle has our coverage from Red Sox camp, so check out his blog for those lineups.
