Despite cooler days, we aren’t done with summer yet

Question: Could this be the summer where more Minnesotans are complaining about road construction than the weather? It seems no highway segment has been spared.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, a national breakdown attributes about 15% of all congestion to bad weather vs. about 10% to work zones (construction and maintenance). Weather delays are greater in the winter with snow and ice removal, while summer often brings more construction delays. At least it gives us all something to talk about other than politics.

I’m heading to the Minnesota State Fair Tuesday to enjoy fresh air, comfortable humidity and less wind. Nothing like a little August windchill to clear the mind. A weak “backdoor” cold front approaching from Ontario may set off a stray thunderstorm Wednesday night. Weather models bring a few storms into far southwestern Minnesota this weekend. Otherwise dry, sunny weather is on tap, with highs in the 70s.

And no, summer is not over. Temperatures in the 80s return next week; probably a few 90s in September.
