Have you noticed early hints of spring? It’s coming, but in no particular hurry. The other day I saw my first fertilizer commercial on TV, and it made me happier than it should have.

Not convinced? Over the next five weeks we’ll see the Sportsmen’s Show, the Boat Show and the Golf Show. Listen carefully and you may hear black-capped chickadees and northern cardinals singing their optimistic songs.

We are picking up over two minutes of additional daylight every day. By the end of January, the sun will set after 5:15 p.m., a massive psychological win compared to the 4:30 p.m. sunsets of December. Seed catalogs are getting mailed out; swimsuits are about to show up at Target. Emails from your tax accountant? I rest my case.

A thaw is on tap this week, but temperatures at or just below 32 degrees early Tuesday plus falling rain may result in significant glaze icing. Careful out there.

Friday’s storm may stay south of Minnesota, and colder air will return for the last 10 days of January.

Hang in there. Spring is coming. No, really.
