One silver lining of the pandemic? It brought our oldest son, his wife and newborn child back to Minnesota from Seattle. They loved the Pacific Northwest but not the earthquake risk. Seattle is more overdue for a large quake than L.A. or San Francisco. There is no way to predict an earthquake hours or days in advance.
No. 2 on my “most dreaded natural disaster list” is wildfires. “The Lost Bus” on Netflix captures the horror and uncertainty of erratic fires whipped along by hurricane-force winds. Based on a true events surrounding a 2018 fire that killed 85 residents of Paradise, Calif., it was California’s deadliest blaze.
There is usually some advance alerting of hurricanes, tornadoes and floods. Not perfect, but if you’re paying attention you can take steps to lower your risk.
Nothing dangerous lurking out there, just sunshine Friday with a cool breeze and highs near 70 this weekend, with showers on Sunday.
Tropical Storm Jerry will stay out to sea. The next name on the list? “Karen.” No joke.
