“Gee Paul, wouldn’t it be great if it could stay like this all year?” Yes and no. As a meteorologist I would be stricken with a terminal case of boredom. Minnesota’s population of 5,706,494 might triple or quadruple. We would become Venice, with lakes.
According to FEMA, the area from Minnesota and Wisconsin to Ohio has “low composite natural-hazard risk compared with the coasts, the West’s quake/wildfire belts, and the Southeast’s hurricane/tornado hot zones.” Twin Cities suburbs on higher ground also sit in FEMA’s lower composite-risk tract. Yes we see flooding, occasional tornadoes and robust winters (!), but in FEMA’s words: We are largely insulated from quakes, hurricanes, and major wildfires. I’ll take it.
Our storybook sky lingers this weekend with sunny 70s. I see 80s into the first week of October, even another shot at 90 degrees next month. Say what?
Beauty and the Beast: While we brag about perfect weather, Tropical Storm Imelda may stall along the Carolina coast next week, dropping 20-inch rains. Not good.
