My swim trunks are in cold storage, but I’m not retiring the shorts just yet. For good reason. Some weather models show two or three more days above 80 degrees over the next 10 days.

These early fall warm spells are more of a trend than a fluke. Climate Central says since 1970 the last day of 75-degree (or higher) warmth has shifted 11 days, from Oct. 6 to Oct. 17. Winter is still coming (take it to the bank), but summer warmth is consistently lingering longer. September is trending more summerlike than autumnal.

That said, the leaves are leaving, the sun drooping ever low into the southern sky. Cooler days are coming, but probably not until after Oct. 2, when highs shrink into the 60s. Until then shorts and T-shirts prevail.

We had thunderstorms in the forecast for Sunday, but I was surprised by the intensity, with a few storm warnings. There’s no rain in sight until the middle of next week. Perfect weather for fall clean- up.

Super Typhoon Ragasa just hit the Philippines with 175 mph winds. Our tropics remain quiet.
