“Of all the forces of nature, fire is the most mysterious and wonderful, as it is also the most merciless,” wrote author and naturalist John Muir.
Everything is interconnected. And what happens in Canada doesn’t stay in Canada.
Smoke is back. Over 700 fires are burning across Canada, more than 300 out of control. An area nearly the size of South Carolina has been charred by flames this year. Our refreshing cool fronts are now often spiked with wildfire smoke, which is making some Minnesotans sick.
Our weather usually dries out in August, but I see fairly frequent showers and thunderstorms. ECMWF (European) guidance predicts 1 to 2 inches for much of Minnesota over the next 15 days, coming in waves.
Showers clip the northern half of Minnesota Monday, with a few thunderstorms Thursday into Sunday. We may hit 90 degrees on Saturday, but no extended beastly heat is in sight.
Milwaukee is recovering from a 100- to 200-year flood. Nine to 15 inches of rain fell as thunderstorms stalled, prolonging tropical deluges. That’s two to three months of rain. Yikes.
