Douglas: Slowly heating up into the weekend

I see highs near 90 degrees from Thursday into Monday, but dew points surging into the 70s will make it feel sticky and hotter.

You can’t have everything. At least not all at once. Yes, the smoke stinks. The sky is a paler shade of blue. It only hurts when I breathe.

But (bear with me here) the drought is over. There is ample water in our lakes and watersheds. Farmers may be facing a bumper harvest. No jumbo tornadoes. None of the 1,000-year floods much of America has grappled with in 2025. Hurricanes are unlikely and Minnesota remains proudly earthquake-free. The glass is more than half full (with fine Minnesota craft beer).

A sloppy front slides a few thundershowers into Minnesota on Wednesday; another potential for puddles Friday night and Sunday. Like the faithful gonging of a clock, swarms of storms spaced about one to two days apart. I see highs near 90 degrees from Thursday into Monday, but dew points surging into the 70s will make it feel sticky and hotter. More two-shower days on the way. This forecast is brought to you by Old Spice.

Dr. Mark Seeley: “After four years of drier-than-normal Julys, this year was wetter than normal for most of the state.”
