Just because we want to know something doesn’t mean science is able to give us a credible answer. How many relatively healthy years do I have left? Will AI devour meteorology jobs? Why are Vikings fans cursed? Will this be a snowy, bitter winter?
I’m hearing whispers of “warm Pacific blobs” and comparisons to the pioneer winter of 2013-14. I wouldn’t rule out a colder, snowier winter (statistically, we are due) but other atmospheric cycles and oscillations may determine winter weather patterns two to six months from now. I’m vaguely amused by “winter outlooks.” The truth: We don’t know what we don’t know. Don’t bet the farm on three- to six-month weather outlooks. The 24-hour forecast is hard enough most days.
A whirlpool of unusually chilly air aloft will wring out showers into Monday. Friday may wind up being the wettest day, and many spots in Minnesota may pick up an inch or more of rain by Monday.
No frosty slaps in sight with highs in the 70s the rest of September, maybe another day above 80. My winter outlook: “Colder with some snow.”
