By DJ Kayser, filling in for Douglas:

On Saturday, my wife and I went up to Mille Lacs Kathio State Park. While a lot of the lower levels of trees were already stripped of their leaves, once you got above the tree line (courtesy of the fire tower), there definitely was a bit more leafage — and color, too. You just have to know where to look, apparently! According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, colors are essentially at peak across the southern third of the state.

Most of Monday will be dry in the metro, with rain chances not moving in until the evening. Widespread showers will last through Tuesday. Rainfall amounts up to a half-inch are possible and could approach ¾ inch in spots — especially west of the metro. Between the rain and breezy conditions, I could see a lot of falling leaves.

Right now, no weather tricks for Halloween, with evening temperatures in the 40s for the witches, goblins, and K-pop candy hunters. No fabled blizzard this year!

The Twin Cities saw their first freeze (32 degrees or below) this past Friday. It tied for the 26th latest first freeze on record.
