I’m sorry Kevin Bacon, but Minnesota only has two or three degrees of separation. “Yes, I know your daughter’s uncle’s second cousin very well!” Watch yourself out there.

On a recent trip to Egypt, a surgeon who lives in Chanhassen came smiling up to me and joked, “Didn’t you used to be someone?” You never know when you might bump into a Minnesotan, so be on your best behavior. By the way, the people we met in Egypt were incredible, kind and helpful. It is in a desert, so yes, it was hot, especially while crawling through narrow passageways under the pyramids of Giza. Cairo was a gritty sea of honking horns, palm trees and shouting vendors. A trip like this and you come home with new eyes.

Dr. Mark Seeley wrote on Minnesota WeatherTalk that, statewide, it was the eighth-warmest October since 1895. I see 50s this week, but it may be cold enough for flurries in about seven days. We are overdue. A few showers bubble up later Monday, but much of the week looks dry.

I see a snowier second half of winter after Jan. 1. We often get a snowy swipe around Thanksgiving. Stay tuned.
