Welcome to “Augtober.” Calendar says October, but weather feels like August. If Minnesota’s weather ever becomes “normal,” will someone please call/text/fax/page me?

The normal high at MSP on Friday and Saturday is 64 degrees. Model guidance suggests highs near 90 both days, close to record territory. One rare benefit of a warming planet? Summer warmth now fairly consistently lingers into September. Minnesota summers last four months now, and a “late autumn” is increasingly the rule, not the exception.

As the seasons shift gears, we should, in theory, be heading back into a wetter pattern. Weekend showers and thunderstorms are most likely over the Red River Valley and far northern Minnesota. This next cool front may come through dry across much of the state. I see 60s for highs much of next week. You know, “normal”?

In the meantime, fire up the shorts, T-shirts and barbecues with July-like 80s into Sunday before a minor reality check.

An average of 0.8 inches of snow falls in October at MSP airport. In 2020, 8.9 inches fell. Soak up all this warmth, eh?
