“They call F5 tornadoes the ‘finger of God.’ Few have stared one in the face and survived,” said the late Bill Paxton’s character in the movie “Twister.” The “finger of God” nickname originated after the horrific “Tri-State Tornado” of 1925, which claimed nearly 700 lives, making it the deadliest tornado in U.S. history.
The National Weather Service just confirmed an EF5 tornado near Enderlin, N.D., on June 20, 2025, the first EF5 since Moore, Okla., was hit in 2013. The Enderlin tornado had estimated winds up to 210 mph, strong enough to scrape farmhouses down to foundation and toss an empty train tanker car 476 feet in the air. Not Hollywood CGI. The real deal.
No violent weather in our near future, just cool, clean sunshine and low humidity into midweek. A shower is possible late Thursday; heavier showers and thunderstorms Sunday as we enter a somewhat wetter pattern.
70s return Friday into much of next week, but models show a streak of 50s by the third week of October. I think we can handle that.
First MSP frost around Oct. 20?
