Sweet corn ... get your sweet corn! Once we get into early August, I love seeing all the produce stands popping up on about every corner, from corn to beans to cantaloupes. I’m waiting for my bumper crop of tomatoes to change from green to a sea of red and orange. I’ve gotten a few so far, but I can tell I’m going to be overloaded in just a week or two!
Crops across southern Minnesota have gotten their fair share of rainfall this summer, and maybe a bit too much at times, with standing water in fields from the downpours. From June 1 through Aug. 7, it was the 32nd wettest on record at Minneapolis-St. Paul, and the 15th wettest at St. Cloud. Over the past 60 days, the areas that have seen below-average precipitation are from Duluth to Hinckley, south of Wabasha to Winona, and in northwestern Minnesota.
A lingering thunderstorm is possible Saturday morning; otherwise, the rest of the weekend looks mainly dry for the metro with lower, but still humid, dew points. We’ll see warmer, muggier air return midweek with minimal metro rain chances until Thursday night.
