Hockey great Wayne Gretzky once borrowed a line from his father: “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.” The only thing most people fear more than public speaking is change.

“Hey grandpa, tell me about the time you put smelly, flammable liquid in vehicles and tools to make them run?” My cylinder count is dropping over time as electrification and bigger, better batteries power everything from EVs and e-bikes to my chain saw, snowblowers and lawn mower. Mostly Ego and Stihl products. Zero maintenance. Easier to use, with a return on investment over time.

Other useful daily tools include weather models, which show July-like warmth spilling into the weekend. By Friday and Saturday, 90 degrees is possible. Showers and a few thunderstorms Sunday mark the leading edge of an inevitable cool front. 60s next week, closer to average. Nothing wintry in sight, but you may need a jacket by mid-October. What a shock.

I am trying to embrace the future. One big takeaway: Once you go battery power, you never go back.
