By Todd Nelson, filling in for Douglas:

Can someone remind me what month it is again? Last I checked, the calendar said fall. Don’t get me wrong, it can be warm at this time of the year, but this is extra.

Despite one of the coolest first seven days of September, temperatures are now running nearly 2.5 degrees above average at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and good enough for the 26th-warmest start to September on record. Through the 24th, we’ve had seven days at 80 degrees or warmer, including a 92-degree high on the 16th and tied for the 70th-warmest temperature ever recorded in the month of September in the Twin Cities.

I don’t see much change in the weather pattern anytime soon. Our warm, dry weather looks to spill into October next week. In fact, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center suggests warmer-than-average temperatures continuing across much of the nation through the first full week of October.

In other news, the Atlantic basin seems to be waking up with two systems to watch near the Bahamas. The East Coast should keep an eye on the Tropics into next week.
