“Paul, you Doppler-infused dolt, I don’t care what you THINK will happen. What do you KNOW will happen?” OK, here goes: Sunrise tomorrow at 7:41 a.m. and sunset at 4:31 p.m. in the Twin Cities. Nighttime hours will be dark — George Carlin with the assist.
Here is what I SUSPECT will happen. High confidence: Another inch or 2 of fluff Thursday into Friday as arctic air approaches. Temperatures below zero most of the weekend, one of the two or three coldest stretches of the winter. And then a nice (wrong word) December thaw, with highs in the 30s much of next week. Colder again for Christmas, but not as frigid as this weekend. Low confidence: El Niño returns in 2026. Next winter won’t look anything like this. My takeaway: Enjoy the snow while you can.
We are made of tough stock, but this weekend will be dangerously cold with windchill factors dipping to minus 30. The “no exposed skin rule” will be in effect. Next week will feel like a bad vacation with a well-earned thaw.
This after the coldest first week of December since 2007.
