“Never predict specific snowfall amounts until 24 hours before you think the snow will begin,” my favorite meteorology professor pleaded. That was 1978. Today, due to improvements in weather models, it’s closer to 48 hours before the event.
With AI slop, social media likes and competition from armchair meteorologists, there’s a lot of noise out there, especially with pending snowfalls. Showing a 360-hour snowfall prediction is like asking what the spread and final score of the Vikings-Cowboys game will be on Dec. 14. Good luck with that.
I’m very confident it will feel like winter from the middle of next week into early December. I know, shocker. I am moderately confident the arrival of this January-like smack will produce some accumulating snow. But models have yet to converge on a specific solution, so where, when and how much are up in the air.
I do see a risk of snow next Tuesday/Wednesday with highs in the 20s on Thanksgiving. Yes, this year we will all go cold turkey. Stay tuned for snowy details.
