Douglas: Any December thaw will be brief

Flakes Sunday, with nonstop storms until Christmas

I have the freedom to be wrong. I can look at the maps, find my own blend of weather models and issue a forecast that differs from the official government outlook from the National Weather Service. U.S. meteorologists almost always pass along NOAA watches and warnings, but right or wrong, the seven-day forecast we issue is our own.

I wouldn’t try that in Vietnam, where private forecasters are held legally responsible for the accuracy of their weather outlooks. China is even stricter, charging up to $7,000 to people or companies issuing unauthorized forecasts, especially those that “cause panic.”

Thank God for that pesky First Amendment.

Saturday’s clipper stayed south, but a coating of flakes may fall Sunday, maybe a few inches north of MSP late Tuesday.

I see a nonstop parade of storms into Christmas with teens and 20s; a few days with highs in single digits — maybe four to six nights below zero degrees. The only thaw? Tuesday.

Casual observation: 20s on Saturday felt good.

And if you look closely, you can always find a guy in shorts.
