A few storms will pop up on Friday, but most models keep us dry for most of the weekend.

“All the months are crude experiments, out of which the perfect September is made,” wrote English author Virginia Woolf. I couldn’t agree more.

Summer for me is trying to cram 100 pounds of experiences and outdoor time into a 20-pound bag. July comes with strings attached (severe storms and beastly humidity). September is the rough equivalent of “extra innings” — more time to savor warmth and outdoor fun without the mad, chaotic crush of summer weekend traffic and overcrowding.

The tropics are miraculously quiet, with the fewest Atlantic hurricanes since 1994. That could change in the blink of an eye, but so far, so good. Meteorologists did NOT see that coming.

Enjoy Thursday’s sun-kissed sky with afternoon highs near 80. A few thunderstorms will pop up on Friday, but most models keep us dry for most of the weekend, with highs in the mid-80s. In fact, the ECMWF (European) weather model predicts 80s thru Sept. 22 before a cool correction.

Days are noticeably shorter — the sun is tired. Summer is saving the best for last. Ah, September.
