Having started seven weather-tech companies, I am a capitalist, but there is a need for labor movements. The quest for a reasonable work-life balance in the U.S. dates back to at least the 1830s. In the 1860s, unions pushed for an eight-hour workday and safer workplaces. With my TV and radio side hustles, I’ve been a proud American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union member since 1994.

Today we honor America’s workers. What’s the worst job you’ve ever had? At age 15, I delivered newspapers on a minibike. I made cheeseburgers at McDonald’s, where I got a nickel raise, and my boss told me “I wasn’t management material.” That still stings. Worst gig? Washing dishes at a Sheraton hotel. I don’t recommend it. Weather was a hobby that morphed into a profession, thanks to great teachers and a hurricane named Agnes. Weird how life works.

Expect more clouds Monday and a slight chance of thunder with more widespread showers/thunderstorms Tuesday. An unusually powerful storm drags chilly air into town later this week. Highs near 60 next weekend? I’m working overtime to find a warmer front.
