Benjamin Franklin famously quipped: “Some are weather-wise, some are otherwise.” Franklin was ahead of his time with daily weather observations and kite-flying lightning experiments.

(Note to reader: Please don’t fly a kite during a thunderstorm.)

Minnesotans are, as a rule, very weather-wise. With some of the most extreme weather on the planet it’s not optional. We know about derechos and supercells; wall clouds; even the size of a severe hailstone (about 1 inch — especially when accompanied by strong winds).

With junglelike heat and humidity, we’ve had our fill of wild storms and we deserve a break. It’s coming.

Can I interest you in a gently used Canadian cool front? Maybe four or five dry days in a row? Dew points dipping into the 50s? If so you’ve come to the right place.

A touch of September is on the way with daytime highs in the 70s over most of Minnesota into the weekend. Comfortable humidity levels. Maybe a shower this weekend, but beastly heat is behind us. For now.

Summer is far from over. This is intermission.
