Do you suffer from chionophobia — an irrational fear of snow? Or maybe cryophobia — a fear of cold temperatures? I may have an underlying case of pagophobia — a fear of ice.
If only Big Pharma sold a pill I could take. I could head south for the winter, but I have “Floridaphobia.”
My sister just moved here from Pennsylvania and is worried about her first Minnesota winter. I told her what I’ve learned in 43 years: good boots, a warm parka (with a hood). If your feet and ears stay warm, it isn’t so bad.
No more 80s and 90s in sight, but 70s won’t feel so bad; that’s closer to average. A stagnating storm will fuel rogue bands of showers and thunderstorms into at least Sunday. Timing the rain is impossible, but the best chance of puddles will come each afternoon and evening, when the atmosphere is most unstable. I still see some 1- to 2-inch rainfall amounts by Monday for many places. No need to water the lawn anytime soon.
And, Joan, listen up: Winter can be quieter and hauntingly beautiful. You even have the freedom to hibernate.
