Looks like a plowable snowstorm. Note to reader: My enduring Minnesota legacy will be introducing the word “plowable” for snow on WTCN-TV (Ch. 11) in 1983. I borrowed it from a meteorology professor and mentor at Penn State.
Dr. John Cahir insisted that his students should not try to predict snowfall down to the inch but rely on a “nuisance-plowable-crippling” rating scale. Nearly 50 years later, I’d say his admonition was dead on. Other meteorologists and even the National Weather Service are using “plowable” now. Thanks for a good idea, John!
This is a humbling storm. We went from flurries a few days ago to near-blizzard potential today. A wrinkle of cold air aloft (trough) is stronger than predicted, pulling more Gulf moisture north; a southern track insuring all-snow. Imagine that.
Expect tumbling temperatures Sunday with snow, heavy at times. Winds gusting to 45 mph may create white-out conditions south and west of MSP later. How much snow? I’m thinking 5 to 8 inches of wind-whipped fluff by Monday. So sorry, John.
