Donald Trump Jr. sparks outrage with Skittles tweet

His message likened Syrian refugees to a bowl of poisoned candy. Wrigley, the maker of Skittles, responded.

Donald Trump Jr. stirred up a tweetstorm with a message likening Syrian refugees to a bowl of poisoned Skittles.

Seeking to promote his father's presidential campaign, the younger Trump posted a tweet late Monday featuring a bowl of the candy Skittles with a warning:

This response came from a former speechwriter for President Obama:

The maker of Skittles, Wrigley Americas, issued a terse response that quickly went viral itself:

UPDATE: A British photographer named David Kittos tells the BBC that the photo used in Trump's tweet was taken by him and posted to his Flickr account in 2010.

Kittos added that he himself was a refugee. He fled Cyprus at age 6 in 1974.

"This was not done with my permission, I don't support his politics and I would never take his money to use it," Kittos told the BBC.
