Dome's roof collapses, so what's next?

The NFL is trying to figure out what to do now that snow has caused the roof of the Metrodome to collapse.

The NFL held a conference call this morning to discuss its options for the Vikings-Giants game after the roof of the Metrodome collapsed overnight due to the weight of the snow from the blizzard that hit Minnesota.

The game already had been pushed back from a noon start on Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday because of concerns from the Metropolitan Sports Facilities about the seven workers who were on the roof Saturday trying to remove the snow. Steve Maki, director of facilities and engineering for the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, said Saturday that there was "no stuctural issue occurring" to the dome.

Obviously, that changed drastically at some point. This is the third time since the dome opened in 1982 that the roof has deflated but the first time since 1983. It also came down in 1981 during construction. In 1982, it took four days to re-inflate the roof.

Among the potential scenarios for the league would be moving the location of the game. They could examine shifting it to the New Meadowlands in New Jersey or potentially another venue closer to Minnesota.
