Authorities are trying to find the origin of a human bone discovered by a dog near a Mankato subdivision.
The dog found the bone over the weekend. An anthropology professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, determined that the bone is human. Authorities don't know if the bone came from a man or a woman or how old it is.
Blue Earth County Sheriff's Capt. Rich Murry said that the bone was sent to the Ramsey County medical examiner's office for examination. Those results will be turned over to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Murry said a crew consisting of two police dogs, 31 searchers and two snowmobilers combed the area on Wednesday but found nothing.
