Just arrived at Target Field to monitor the draft. I've had enough of Bryce Harper this and Manny Machado that. And I'm a not a fan of this one-round-only format. It's a lot of time to invest on one pick. In most cases, players drafted today won't reach the majors for a few years. Some will never make it.

A couple notes:

The Twins have a lot of scouting experience, from Mike Radcliff to Terry Ryan to Vern Followell and scouting director Deron Johnson.

Ryan, I heard, focused on Florida and Georgia players this year. There's a lot of talent in both states, and Georgia Tech and a few interesting players. Just so happens that Delino DeShields, Jr. went to high school in College Park. But it sounds like he'll be gone by the time the Twins draft at 21.

Derek Dietrich, ss, Georgia Tech (National Rank: 69) - that's from Baseball America. Maybe he's around when the Twins second pick - No.71 - comes. We won't find out until tomorrow, thanks to the format!

Ryan often said during his time as GM that the goal of the organization is to protect their territory and draft local products, if possible. That could put Gophers star Mike Kvasnicka on their radar - but it looks like the switch hitter won't be around if the Twins pass on him in the first round.

A possible sleeper pick with local ties (well, not really a sleeper): Aaron Senne, 1B, Missouri: The Twins took him in the 13th round in 2006 and the 32nd round last year after a poor season. He bounced back to hit .400 with 16 homers. The Twins might go after the Rochester Mayo product, again, if he's around early on the second day.

Check back for updates as the night goes on....

Here's a link toMLB.com's draft tracker

First overall pick Bryce Harper: Scott Boras hints that Harper would be better off not being a catcher because of the wear and tear. Presto! Harper is drafted as an outfielder. What would have Boras done with Joe Mauer?

6:25 An mock draft update now has the Twins selecting Brandon Workman, a righthander from Texas.

7:14: The only surprise to this point is that lefthander Chris Sale was projected to go in the top five but is still on the board. Wimmers, Workman, Golden still on the board. Oops, White Sox just took Sale.

7:37 Four picks away, and the Twins might get to choose from a lot of players they like. Third baseman Nick Castellanos, righthanders Wimmers and Workman, outfielder Golden all could be there. Signing issues with Castellanos could be the reason for his drop.

THE TWINS ARE ON THE CLOCK!!!!!
