Search the sky

Interstate State Park

8:30-9:30 p.m. Friday

A short introduction to galaxies and nebulas, followed by a search of the skies through reflecting telescopes. Info: 651-465-5711; www.mndnr.gov.

Trout hatchery

Whitewater State Park

10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday

Tour the Crystal Springs Trout Hatchery. Meet at the visitor center. Registration is required: 1-507-932-3007, ext. 226 or e-mail sara.holger@state.mn.us.

Family rafting

Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park

9 a.m.-noon Saturday

Head to Brooklyn Park (Hennepin County side). Float down the Mississippi River and explore a deserted island. No experience necessary. Safety equipment and shuttle provided. Cost is $30. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation and reference activity number 315401-03. This program is for ages 8 older, and children 17 years and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult.

French Regional Park

10 a.m.-noon Saturday

Head to Plymouth, and learn about all things kayaks. Practice entering and exiting a kayak, paddling in a straight line, spinning in one spot, and everything in between. Test your new skills during some kayaking games. Equipment provided. Cost is $20 and reservations are required. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation and reference activity number 325011-06. This program is for ages 8-14.

Adaptive cycling

6-8 p.m. Sunday

Elm Creek Park Reserve

Try adaptive off-road handcycles. Explore the 2.2-mile adaptive trail built specifically to accommodate wider and more stable arm-powered bikes. Meet at the trailhead for an open ride.

This program is free and open to all ages.

Newbie birders

1-2 p.m. Sunday

Fort Snelling State Park

Join the naturalist for a birding hike and learn about the basic techniques of identification. Binoculars are provided. Registration required. Call 612-725-2724 to register.

Pioneer music

Whitewater State Park

Jam with bluegrass pickers and old-time music players and other park visitors. Meet at the amphitheater. Info: 1-507-932-3007.
