Snowshoe Saturday

Whitewater State Park

10 a.m.-noon Saturday

The remaining Saturdays this month will be days to explore on snowshoes. Visit the forest, side of the stream, and meadow to look for signs of wildlife and to explore the winter world with your senses. Young and old are invited; bring your own snowshoes, or use the park's. (507-932-3007, mndnr.gov)

William O'Brien State Park

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday

Meet at the visitor center for a short introduction to snowshoeing. Then check out shoes and explore the park. Return the snowshoes by 3 p.m. Call 651-433-0500 to reserve snowshoes.

Ski by candlelight

Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

6-9 p.m. Saturday

Head to Onamia, Minn., and enjoy skiing by the light of the moon, with candle luminaria to help guide the way. There are two separate ski routes and a snowshoeing route. Refreshments will be served, and a shuttle bus will run continuously between the trail center and the interpretive center. Ski rental is available on a first-come, first-served basis. This event is co-sponsored with the Natural Resource Club of Central Lake College. (320-532-3523, mndnr.gov)

Hike, shoot, send

Nerstrand Big Woods State Park

1-3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Check out a camera at the park office (or use your own), then hike to Hidden Falls and take a picture. When you return, staff will print your photo and attach it to a postcard backing. Address it to someone special, and the park will mail it. (507-333-4840)

Snowshoe Sunday

Elm Creek Park Reserve

1-2:30 p.m. Sunday

Consider snowshoes and how they affected Minnesota frontiersman Pierre Bottineau's winter travels. Equipment provided. Cost is $5. (763-694-7894, threeriversparks.org)

Women's outing

French Regional Park

3-4:30 p.m. Sunday

Head to Plymouth and enjoy snowshoeing with a guided hike. Equipment provided. Cost is $5. This program is designed for women ages 13 and older. Children 17 years and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult. Call 763-694-7750 and reference number 125045-03.

Wednesday walks

Gateway State Trail

1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday

Get outside and discover natural happenings along the trail. Meet at the trail parking lot at Jamaca and Jeffrey avenues in Grant. (651-231-6968, mndnr.gov)
