Cap off a day of winter activities in Pine Island with a candlelight walk. Begin at the golf course and continue along the trail. Sponsored by the nonprofit Pine Island Image Committee. (507-356-4839, mndnr.gov)
St. Croix by candlelight
William O'Brien State Park
5-8 p.m. Saturday
Start at the visitor center, learn about winter constellations and make a constellation chart to take along on a walk. Then follow the flickering LED lights, looking for stars and listening for owls along the packed 2.5-mile trail. Finish back at the visitor center with hot apple cider and an opportunity to roast marshmallows. The event is organized by the Friends of William O'Brien State Park. (651-433-0500, mndnr.gov)
Ski lessons
French Regional Park
Skate basics, 9:30-11 a.m. Sunday; classic basics, noon-1:30 p.m. Sunday
In the skate session, learn efficient edging, gliding and control. Prior classic skiing experience recommended. Otherwise, a private lesson is encouraged. Cost is $25, or $41 with ski rental. This lesson is for ages 13 and older. Reference number 125052-02.
