In the field for fossils

Whitewater State Park

3-5 p.m. Saturday

Find, and keep, fossils of plants and animals that lived here hundreds of millions of years ago. Bring transportation, because the site is 9 miles from the park. (1-507-932-3007, mndnr.gov).

Guided canoe trip

St. Croix State Park

1-4 p.m. Saturday

Take a guided 5-mile paddle down the peaceful St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Rent canoes and kayaks from Pardun's Canoe Rental, located in the Nature Store building. Stop by or call 320-384-0508. Rent your boat in advance. Meet outside the store before 1 p.m. (1-320-384-6591, mndnr.gov).

I Can Mountain Bike!

Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area

9-11:30 a.m., noon-2:30 p.m. or 3-5:30 p.m. Saturday

Learn shifting, braking and body position, along with the basics of safety and trail etiquette. Bikes and helmets provided. Designed for ages 10 and up. Cost is $15 per child, $25 per adult. Reservations required (mndnr.gov/reservations, 866-857-2757)

Canoe paddle-making

St. Croix State Park

Meet the naturalist outside the St. Croix Lodge for a canoe paddle-making demonstration. Try hand tools as you learn about different shapes and styles of paddles. (1-320-384-6591, mndnr.gov).

Full-moon walk
