1 Snowshoe hike

Humans have been using snowshoes for at least 6,000 years. Learn about the history of snowshoeing during this naturalist-led hike. Also learn about the history of Flandrau State Park, situated partly within the city limits of New Ulm. Meet at the beach house. 2 The big chill

3 Cross-country ski lessons

Review the basics of Nordic skiing — how to stride, stop, turn and climb small hills. The class is designed for adult novices, thought it's a fine option for lapsed skiers as well. $20 or $31 with ski rental. Ages 13-plus (a similar class for ages 6-12 is offered Dec. 21). 4 Tracking by the moon
