"Lake Superior is hit or miss ice fishing-wise — we rarely get enough ice for it — but Tettegouche also has all these pretty interior lakes. It's a 1.7-mile hike (on a groomed trail) to Mic Mac Lake but it's an absolutely gorgeous walk. And the lake itself is surrounded by forests, cliffs and overlooks. With this event, half of my goal is to teach people about ice fishing. The other half is to bring people to this great spot. It's not on any beaten path. It's not a place you would stumble across."
Kurt Mead, interpretive naturalist, Tettegouche State Park
Join Mead for a beginner-friendly ice fishing expedition to Mic Mac Lake on Dec. 27, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. More information: www.mndnr.gov/ptcalendar
