Dispatch: Hiking the North Country Trail in Minnesota

June 27, 2014 at 6:16AM

"We just came out with the first-ever guidebook for the North Country Trail in Minnesota. It's called the 'Guide to the North Country National Scenic Trail in Minnesota,' and it's been around for three or four weeks. We had about 50 contributors, all volunteers who've adopted their own section of trail. We asked them to go out and write about the highlights of their section and other things hikers should be aware of. The book covers the whole state, but it focuses primarily on the 170-mile section from Chippewa National Forest to Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge."

Matthew Davis, regional trail coordinator for Minnesota and North Dakota, North Country Trail Association. The book is available at local outdoor outfitters and online at www.northcountrytrail.org.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
