Dining out: The Macy's Flower Show and a meal

"Brasil: Gardens in Paradise," this year's edition of the annual (and free) Macy's Flower Show, runs daily through April 8 at the downtown Minneapolis store's eighth-floor auditorium. Enjoy sights and scents, provided by Bachman's, and a meal.

At the Oak Grill, the store's clubby and well-run 12th-floor restaurant, the menu features a reliable list of all-American classics, but in honor of the flower show's Brazilian theme, the kitchen is also featuring achiote-rubbed pork tenderloins served with a poblano-hominy-corn salad. Purchase an entree and receive a complimentary flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. Lunch daily, early dinner (to 7 p.m.) weekdays.

It's much more informal next door in the Skyroom, where a well-stocked, all-you-can-eat salad bar ($9.95, including beverage) is the main draw, but a handful of quick-service counters feature grill, deli and pasta items, all affordably priced. The name? It's a nod to the big-city views. Lunch Monday through Saturday.

Take a short stroll south on Nicollet Mall to chef Vincent Francoual's eponymous restaurant, for scrupulously prepared French fare, urbane surroundings and attentive service. Here's a deal: cassoulet for two, along with a salad and dessert, for $40, served Monday through Thursday after 5:30 p.m. Lunch weekdays, dinner Monday through Saturday.
